Susan Sarandon Bio
It was the year after the 1968 Democratic convention, and there was a casting request for a film with several roles for young people who had disrupted convention. Joe (1970) was selected for auditions in New York by two recent Catholic University graduates. Chris Sarandon, an actor who had trained to be an actor, was rejected. His wife Susan was offered a significant role. That role was as Susan Compton who was the daughter of an ad executive Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick). Dad Bill kills Susan’s drug dealer boyfriend. Next, Joe (Peter Boyle) as a bigot, who works on an assembly line, and also collects guns, befriends Susan. Five years later Sarandon creates the movie. Janet is a transvestite who becomes entangled with Dr. Frank n Furter (1975). Sarandon stood up for Annie in Bull Durham (1988) more than 15 years following her first appearance in the film. She flew at her own expense from Rome in Italy from Italy to Los Angeles. "It was a fantastic script ... and removed a lot of myths and changed the American definition of success" she stated. "When I arrived I had a few hours with Kevin Costner, kissed some ladies at the studio, then was back on the plane". Her relationship with Bull Durham (1988)) supporting actor, Tim Robbins, had given birth to two sons in 1992, and placed Sarandon in the position of having to leave her idyllic home and taking on roles that truly challenged her. The result was four Academy Award nominations in the 1990s and best actress for Dead Man Walking (1995). Louis Malle's Atlantic City (1980), was her first Academy Award nomination.
